Visiting La Granja was a highlight of our trip. I had always wanted to try a parador, and we were fortunate enough to select La Granja, which we greatly enjoyed. First, the building is unique and beautiful. The common areas were stunning and our room was very comfortable from the room size to the well equipped bathroom. Bed was a little firm for my taste, but my husband loved it. The restaurant was physically lovely, the service was quite good and the food terrific. The location is in a small town, but actually offers quite a bit to do nearby. In walking distance in the town itself are the Palacio which is beautiful and not as overrun with visitors as some we visited. The Glass factory was also quite interesting and worth a visit. Also in town are quite a few quaint small restaurants/cafes, and we visited several were authentically local and that we quite enjoyed...using google translate to make things work when English was not spoken but that added to the adventure. The hotel offers free parking only a short block away, so it's easy to then explore the area with Segovia only a small 20 minute drive. We also visited the Escorial and Valley of the Fallen (each about one hour away) comfortably during our stay at La Granja. The staff was quite accommodating and pleasant from the front desk folks to the restaurant servers and the housekeeping staff. All in all, after the bustle of Madrid, our stay at the beautiful parador of La Granja was a wonderful mix of a slightly slower pace but still with plenty to do and see. Highly recommend staying at this property.
